Dr. Tim Hindmarsh

Dr. Tim Hindmarsh brings more than thirty years of frontline clinical experience to patients navigating complex, poorly understood illness.

Born and raised in Canada, he earned his medical degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1992 and completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Alberta in 1994. He and his wife, Dr. May Hindmarsh, then immigrated to Oregon, where he spent 25 years with Samaritan Health Services in the Willamette Valley practicing across the full spectrum of care: family medicine, hospital medicine, and urgent care.

His work there extended well beyond the exam room. Dr. Hindmarsh served on the Samaritan Health Board of Directors for a five-hospital integrated health network, along with the Physicians Board, Management Council, Credentialing, and Pharmacy and Therapeutics committees. He was Medical Director of a long-term care center and spent nearly twenty years as a utilization review physician. That experience gave him an unusually clear view of how insurance-driven medicine decides what care patients are allowed to receive, and why patients with complex or contested diagnoses so often fall through the cracks. It is a major reason he practices outside that system today.

From 2020 through 2022, Dr. Hindmarsh worked almost exclusively in COVID clinics, treating patients through every phase of the pandemic. He watched firsthand as a subset of patients did not recover, and as others developed persistent symptoms following vaccination. Many were told their symptoms were not real. He believes they are, and that they deserve a physician willing to listen carefully, investigate thoroughly, and treat the person rather than the chart.

In 2021 he helped establish Ridgeway Health, a private urgent care clinic, and co-launched the BS FREE MD podcast with his wife, Dr. May Hindmarsh, where the two take on difficult subjects in healthcare with candor and humor. He is not afraid of controversial territory, and he has built a career on questioning conventional wisdom when patients are not being served by it.

His work has been recognized with the OHSU Award for Contribution to Rural Healthcare (2006) and the Oregon Governor’s Award for Contribution to Physical Fitness (2008). He is the founder of Act Alive, a 24-hour extreme sports decathlon created to raise money and awareness for a hospital foundation.

Dr. Hindmarsh has been married to Dr. May Hindmarsh for over thirty years. They raised their family in rural Oregon and now live in Bradenton, Florida. His faith, his family, and staying active remain central to how he lives and how he practices.
