Pulmonary Consults

Expert review and care for complex pulmonary conditions

About Pulmonary Consults

Since Covid, a significant light has been shone on the complexity of lung conditions, and the implications of incorrect diagnostic interpretations. Many were intubated too early, others were denied the use of life-saving steroids for severe inflammatory responses, or “organizing pneumonias”, seen in patient imaging. These are of course, critical care examples. But, what about the chronic lung conditions we see? A study shows that anywhere from 10-95% of COPD cases are misdiagnosed, illustrating the extreme inconsistency in practitioner skill level, and general lack of consensus over complex lung issues.

Dr. Pierre Kory, who performed his pulmonary fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Beth Israel Medical Center in New York, has been providing expert pulmonary opinions for close to two decades. Known as a master educator, he has also spent considerable time teaching others on the proper diagnosis and treatment of chronic and critical pulmonary conditions.

Given Dr. Kory’s expertise, we offer pulmonary consults to anyone seeking additional opinions on their diagnosis, and available treatment options for their lung-related conditions. Below is additional information about Pulmonary Consults, such as visit info, support info, pricing info, and FAQs.

Provider Appointments

As Dr. Kory will often prescribe treatment for pulmonary conditions, we offer care programs that provide an appropriate level of support for patients being seen. New patients will have an hour long appointment with Dr. Kory, as well as a 30 minute followup appointment. In some cases, patients will have a second followup appointment in their initial phase of care, depending on their condition

Our RNs provider frequent check-ins with patients in-between appointments. The goal is to ensure patient adherence to a plan of care, help manage symptoms, and address patient questions. Patients can also proactively call the nursing line at any time if their needs require it. Nursing support goes on for the duration of patient treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I seek out a pulmonary consult?

Patients often come to us for pulmonary consults when they have received a complex lung-related diagnosis. For example, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Cystic Fibrosis, Sarcoidosis, etc… In many cases, the treatment options provided to patients are severe and life-altering, so they seek out a second opinion. We can also provide out-of-the-box thinking in regards to treatment approaches. These out of the box approaches are not likely to be seen by patients in a traditional medical setting. However, we can not guarantee that mainstream standard of care will be avoidable in all cases.

Didn't Dr. Kory lose his ability to practice medicine?

No. Dr. Kory was stripped of his board certifications. Board certifications are “accolades” given as part of a voluntary process involving testing and continuing education requirements around a medical specialty. Being stripped of these does not impact Dr. Kory’s ability to practice medicine.
